Cholesterol is a lipid that is divided into two sub-categories: blood cholesterol, which is secreted naturally by the liver, and dietary cholesterol found in the animal foods we eat. Cholesterol plays a vital role in the functioning of our body. Without cholesterol, the human body does not function normally.
Present in the wall of our cells, cholesterol gives them flexibility and strength. To reach the different organs, cholesterol uses carriers that allow it to circulate in the blood. HDL (high density lipoproteins), known as "good cholesterol", and LDL (low density lipoproteins), known as "bad cholesterol".
